The term ‘Kostumer’ refers to a typical style of clothing. A Kostumer can be a formal dress, a party dress, a special clothing worn to disguise oneself or theatrical attire. To be more specific, Kostumer can be any kind of clothing including the accessories that go with it. udklædning Like shoes, hats or caps, ornaments etc. the hairstyle of the person and bags that he or she carries are also considered to be a part of the Kostumer. Kostumer have been through a lot of changes and alterations over the ages. A brief look into the past will give us an idea as to how it has evolved.

Kostumer in Ancient times:

In ancient Egypt, clothing was regarded as a luxury and not a necessity. Most of the natives didn’t wear many clothes except for a piece of loincloth draped around the body.   The Pharaoh and the queen wore the most graceful attire. Ancient Greek Kostumer were mainly made of fine wool or chitin, which was famous for its elegance. The Romans, deeply influenced by the poise of the Greek draping, wore a tunic like kostumer called ‘toga’, which was for men and ‘stola’ which was for women. Both of them were quite similar to that of the Greek. Byzantine clothing was much like the Roman, but was more body-covering. Byzantine men wore the same tunic with longer sleeves. It was at this time that the lower limbs of the tunic were joined to make trousers, which was initially adopted by men from the lower class of the society. Ancient India had its own take on weaving cotton which was worn by them and had spread to the Mediterranean countries. The Chinese, in ancient times, used to wear silk kostumers.

Kostumer in Medieval times:

The evolution of kostumers in different countries began after the crusades. By the 14th century, the idea of tailoring the cloth to fit the body came into the minds of people. Due to the rise in wealth of the Italian cloth merchants, and the tough competition among them, they started to cut and stitch the garments in a different way than the usual to call it fashion. Fashion and the desire for wearing beautifully made kostumers and udklædning was taking place in the medieval European society. The Renaissance in Italy played a major role in the evolution of European kostumers in this period of time. The changes took place so rapidly that the wearers were interested to look more alarming than tranquil. Kostumers were more starched and decorated with lace. It is by the end of the 16th century, that people from every country became conscious about fashion in other countries.

Kostumer in Modern times:

In the early 18th century, women were respected and had the liberty to wear kostumers of her own choice. The enlightenment gave birth to a big shift in dressing style of men in the 18th century. There was hardly any difference in the dressing of a native European man and a sophisticated high official. Men’s Kostumer transformed into full-skirted ones with buttons and wigs. Due to the industrial revolution, more stylish, complex and expensive garments and udklædning were produced. Brightly colored shirts and sporty jackets emerged in the beginning of the 20th century.
